Division 5 participated in several Remembrance Day activities to learn more about "why we remember" on November 11th. To honour those who sacrificed, Division 5 created a wreath of poppies. We sewed our poppies together using simple sewing techniques and presented it, alongside other Laronde classes, at our Remembrance Day Assembly. Division 5 also wrote small messages of thanks and hope to veterans. These post cards were delivered to the
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 in South Surrey in time for Remembrance Day.
Students were busy in September creating math collages to reflect our learning on large numbers. Each student was assigned a large number (7 digits) and created a collage (resembling an "I Spy") that represented the number. For example, if the student at 3 million in their number, they would place three of an object somewhere in their collage (ex. three cats). Then, they provided a legend so that the viewer was able to decode the hidden number contained in their collage. Over a week, the students created some fascinating art pieces!
Students designed math quilts this week to demonstrate their understanding of equivalent fractions and comparing fractions by finding common denominators. Now that students are able to find equivalent fractions with denominators of 100, we will be looking into how fractions are related to decimal numbers. This project has been posted to FreshGrade.
Our class took our first grand bus voyage together to UBC today. We paid our first visit to the UBC School of Kinesiology and took part in many engaging and unique activities at their facilities. We loved getting to know our UBC Student Leaders! Activities today included modified rugby, pickleball and fitness in the gym! We'll be visiting UBC next on October 27th.
Don't forget that...
We are already half way through November...6 more weeks of school this year and only 3 weeks away from report cards! Where does time go? Division 3 took part in a lot of hands-on, experiential learning both at JQ and on field studies. Pictures express a thousand words and I've documented (most) of our learning experiences over the past month and shared below...
