What Home Review will look like this year...At this level, if a student works diligently in class and demonstrates a good understanding of concepts, it is my belief that adding extra work for home may detract from other very important parts of life (i.e. time with family and friends, physical activity, relaxation, etc.)
Learning is ongoing. What happens at school should be shared and extended at home (and vice versa). In Grade 5, we will be focusing on building healthy home review habits. These healthy habits will be modelled and reviewed in class. It is the class expectation that students spend some time, each evening, reviewing what they explored at school during the day. This may be informal review, such as conversation during the ride to soccer, over dinner or time spent together looking at the FreshGrade portfolio. Sometimes, review may be more formal where students spend time revising for an upcoming assessment or presentation. In addition to nightly review, this year we will have two activities that extend to home on a daily basis:
Communication between home and school is important to ensure that home revision remains a positive experience for all. If your child seems to be spending significant time on school work on a regular basis (i.e. 2+ nights/week of 60+ min) please e-mail me as soon as possible so that I can help. |
